PROVIDING AUTO’S MEMBERS WITH GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS REPRESENTATION FOR OVER 25 YEARS!
Since its formation in 1984, AUTO has maintained a strong legislative presence in Olympia and Washington DC.
Much of AUTO’s governmental affairs effort revolves around advisory roles to regulatory agencies, including the Department of Ecology (DOE) which regulates underground storage tanks in the state.
Members of Congress from Washington have historically relied upon AUTO when considering legislative initiatives regarding the petroleum distribution system. US Senator Maria Cantwell and Representative Jay Inslee (below) are two members of Congress that regularly contacted AUTO Exec Tim Hamilton for information on the industry.
Congress and federal agencies such as the Department of Energy, the Congressional Accounting Office, Federal Trade Commission and others have relied upon AUTO for industry expertise. At the request of the US Senate Judiciary Committee, AUTO Exec Hamilton testified before Congress on the impacts of the mega mergers in the oil industry occurring in the 90’s.(View Hamilton/US Senate Testimony video in the video section below)
From its beginning in 1984, AUTO has effectively lobbied in Olympia on behalf of its members. Often playing to overflowing hearing rooms such as this hearing in 2010, AUTO’s testimony is known for its simple and straight forward approach to educating members of the Legislature on the effects it could have on our member’s businesses and the pump prices paid by motorists on the island.
